Story? SHTORY??

Hey, Byron-- the no story films are ok by me. With Mystic River, though, I
think there is one in there kind of fractured for the purpose of giving that
"post-modernist" gloss that hides the fact that it is really just modernist
emotional-indignant stuff designed to make you mad at child molesters.
Have you seen Fricke's "Baraka" ? That film has no "story," not even any
dialogue, not actual characters (just faces) and a bunch of powerful images
(some of religious rituals, some of Brazilian favelas (slums), some of
modern hyped-up cities, some of timeless nature in slow mo or fast mo. All
underscored with some Third world music (heard some Balinese stuff in there,
as well as African, Aboriginal, Tibetan, etc.) It's kind of manipulative,
though.
