Christos anesti? the Greeks ask themselves on Easter Sunday. The
formulaic response is Alythows anesti!
That was yesterday rainy and conducive to wrestling with a computer.
After numerous reinstalls, I am back to where I was and, MAYBE, for the
moment the PC is more stable throwing less blue screens of death. The
floppy drive died but I was pleasantly surprised that new floppy drives
are less than $10.
Indeed the whole computer died subsequent to the death of its harddrive.
But not really; what it was was that the Slot 1 CPU (circa 1999 Celeron
300 overclocked to 450Mhz) had card creep and worked its way loose.
Just reseating the CPU fixed things. And that's why they don't use Slot
1 for CPUs any more. Currently CPUs use sockets with a teeny tiny
lockdown arm. and run at 2.4Ghz and up. Installed used 10GB IBM
harddrive replacing a WesternDigital 6GB of the past. With a dialup
Internet connection, what do I need 2.4Ghz for?
On another subject, when is the Reunion? I understand that MaryAnn Price
is hosting it in her house on the ribber. I haven't gotten a flyer or
email about Rubottom's annual yard party at Artie Osborne's Red River
Motors yet either. I shall ask Gale Samoraby, Rubottom's ex as she will
know when it is.
