Hans,

The photos of old ships being broken up by hand on tidal flats in Bangladesh
are in a book (Edward Burtynsky is the photographer). The title is something
like Altered Landscapes.

One of the photo essays in this book is of working Vermont marble and
granite quarries also fascinating but not as fascinating as the workers and
the parts of ships on the tidal flats in the foreground with whole ships in
the background waiting their turn. The air is red with flying iron dust, a
pure hell.
