My experience with Pho...which I dearly love btw...in both CA and =
VA...has been with basil. The better Pho restaurants usually offer a =
choice of "fatty" additives so you can have something barely more =
caloric than chicken/beef stock with noodles and then work your way up =
from very lean brisket (my preference) to beef ribs. Whatever. It is a =
great soup and hope you all enjoy same.

  Cilantro is sometimes referred to as Chinese parsley.

thorny=20

in food=20
    industry rights and wrongs than they already are with
permits,=20
    inspections, standards, etc. Kerry could certainly admonish =
the
food=20

governmental
intervention=20
    by simply offering more 400 and 500 calorie meals for =
average
sized=20

I'm not=20
    so sure
that laws and law suits are the answer due to the =
ubiquitous=20

with=20
    feeding massive
numbers of people who eat 50% of their meals away =

    though, I think he should declare
that time has come to double =
the=20
    minimum wage. That way the working people
in the food industry =
can enjoy=20
    a poor man's stock-split and take pride in
their employment. =
Double up=20
    stocks-splits aren't just for shareholders
anymore but should be=20
    broadened to include those for whom labor is their
stock in =
trade. Gee,=20
    they could make up the difference by just reducing the
size of =
some of=20
    the meals they offer, charging one third less for half=20
    size
meals.
> >
> >Oh, but the price of fast =
food would=20
    skyrocket. So what, I hear there are
places called grocery stores =
where=20
    people can actually buy very reasonably
priced food and actually =
prepare=20
    meals at home. Grocery stores are also a
part of the food =
industry. Are=20
    fast food workers to be treated as if they
are today's version of =
slaves,=20
    earning half of what it is estimated that it
costs to live? If =
all the=20
    minimum wage workers in America suddenly got paid
twice as much =
as they=20
    are now earning the economy would recover at warp
speed.
> =
>That=20
    is what I would do if I were Kerry. Fighting conservative=20
    political
rhetoric with a few good ideas in the spirit of nobless =

approved=20
    legislation on Wednesday to bar
people from suing restaurants on =
the=20
    ground that their food makes customers
fat.
> > =
>
>=20
    > >Advocates of the Republican-written measure, which has =
become known=20
    on
Capitol Hill as the cheeseburger bill, said it was needed to =
curb the=20
    threat
of obesity claims against fast-food franchises that =
provide=20
    millions of jobs
along with their burgers and fries.
> > =

    >
> > >"The food industry is under attack and in the =
cross=20
    hairs of the same
trial lawyers who went after big tobacco," said =

    Representative Ric Keller, a
Florida Republican who is the chief =
sponsor=20
    of the measure, which was
adopted 276 to 139.
> > =
>
>=20
    > >The White House endorsed the bill on Wednesday, saying in a =

    statement
that "food manufacturers and sellers should not be held =
liable=20
    for injury
because of a person's consumption of legal, =
unadulterated food=20
    and a
person's weight gain or obesity."
> > >
> =
>=20
    >The outlook is unclear in the Senate, where Democrats have=20
    blocked
consideration of such limitations on lawsuits. The main =
sponsor,=20
    however, is
the No. 2 Republican, Senator Mitch McConnell of=20
    Kentucky.
> > >
> > >"This bill says, `Don't =

become a=20

ones not=20

latest=20
    Republican-led effort to provide legal
immunity for a specific =
industry=20
    after efforts to impose broader limits have
been blocked. Last =
week, a=20
    measure to provide immunity to gun manufacturers
and dealers was=20
    defeated. Last year, a broad energy measure stalled =
over
resistance to=20
    granting immunity to producers of a gasoline additive blamed
for =
water=20
    pollution. In the past, Republicans pressed for immunity for =
the
tobacco=20
    industry and producers of vaccines.
> > >
> > =
>While=20
    Republicans on the House floor said there had been a spate =
of
such suits=20
    against restaurants, Democrats said there had been few.
> > =

    >
> > >John Banzhaf, a law professor at George =
Washington=20
    University who has
been a main critic of the measure, said that =
he knew=20
    of only one suit that
would be covered by the measure and that it =
had=20
    been dismissed in court.
Professor Banzhaf said a handful of =
other such=20
    suits had proceeded based on
labeling and ingredients. He also=20
    acknowledged that there were lawyers
exploring suing restaurants =
over=20
    obesity.
> > >
> > >"There seems to be a =
hysteria=20
    that a couple of law professors are going
to pick on poor little=20
    defenseless companies like McDonald's, Kraft and
KFC," Professor =
Banzhaf=20
    said. "It just doesn't make sense."
> > >
> >=20
    >Supporters said the mere prospect of lawsuits justified the=20
    measure,
which the House majority leader, Tom DeLay of Texas, =
said was=20
    intended to
discourage the "Ronald McDonald made me do it=20
    defense."
> > >
> > >"It is ridiculous that =
we even=20
    need to do a bill like this, but we do,"
Mr. DeLay said.
> =
>=20
    >
> > >The legislation is formally known as the =
Personal=20
    Responsibility in
Food Consumption Act. It would bar new cases =
and=20
    dismiss pending federal and
state suits in which damages are =
sought as=20
    compensation for conditions
connected to weight gain or obesity=20
    attributed to restaurant food. The
authors said it would not =
prevent=20
    suits brought because of a restaurant's
negligence, false =
advertising,=20
    mislabeling or tainted food.
> > >
> > =
>Though the=20
    bill was championed by Republicans, 55 Democrats joined =
221
Republicans=20
    in supporting it. Opposing it were 137 Democrats, one =
Republican
and one=20
    independent.
> > >
> > >Democratic critics =
failed in=20
    multiple efforts to win changes in the
measure, which was backed =
by the=20
    National Restaurant Association and the
National Federation of=20
    Independent Businesses and opposed by some legal and
health=20
    interests.
> > >
> > >"For small-business =
owners,=20
