Is that the brain inside or outside of the bottle?
Incidentally, "smart organizations"...ie. those not in Texas or Louisiana,
consider "smart" managers those who hire their replacements early on in the
game. Of course, this course of action has another benefit, to wit - you
had better keep on your toes cause the guy/gal you hired just might get your
job. Nevertheless, much of "corporate America" on the West Coast has a more
subtle and sophisticated view of management and how the systems works to the
advantage of all. Not without its problems, of course, like making one
"salaried" and therefore, vulnerable to the prevailing 50-60 hour work week.
However, if one is making a "real" salary, that is, anything above $100K per
annum, then there are some compensations. Below that, much less so.

> Amen, to the Mencken quotation. I think the education talk is just more
BS--the powers that be are not at all inclined to advance the educational
level--the dumber the better when it comes to buying in to the controlling
party's cynical appeal. A superintendant retiree I know estimates that 90%
of what children learn takes place in the home and 10% is what is learned in
school. That gives the notion of home schooling new cache as the schools
merely babysit while the parent's education batteries recharge while the
kids are away six hours a day. How recharged the parents can be after their
8 hr. work day is doubtful, however. So the college entrance exams have to
be written in lower and lower age appropriate language. "Dumb and Dumber" is
more descriptive of America than a movie title these days.
> One of the organizational rules I once heard was that those below the top
were not chosen if they smarter than the one at the top. Given GWB's
statements in Igor's poem that bar is now lower than any I have ever
witnessed in my lifetime. There is a movie playing here during SWSX called
"Bush's Brain" based on a book about Rove. I hope Vulcan Video can get ahold
of the tape. I really want to see it.
