A host of friends and musical family are gathering
to celebrate the life and work of Tary K. Owens on
Sunday, November 2, 2003 at Arts on Real, 2826 Real
Street in East Austin. Under the umbrella of the
Austin Circle of Theatres, the 1st Annual Celebration
of the Tie that Binds, a fledgling non-profit dedicated
to the memory of Tary with the goal of helping Texas
music and musicians, starts at 1:30 p.m. and lasts
until closing time at 2 a.m. The celebration will
include gospel, traditional folk music, jazz, r’n’b,
blues and soul. There will be food catered by Food
Fancies and Chef B’s Personal Chef and Catering, as
well as a video showing of the work in progress of
Scott Conn, whose interviews of many of Austin’s
denizens will eventually become a comprehensive
documentary about the Austin music scene.
The musicians who will appear are (as well as surprise
guests as the confirmations roll in): Stan Alexander,
Jake Andrews, Martin Banks, Jack Barber, Spot Barnett,
Jim Barry, Sarah Brown, Mike Buck, John Clay, Alex Coke,
