Terry Gross interviewed William Kristol yesterday.
His answers to her challenging questions were
surprisingly reasonable. When I have seen him
on TV talking head shows, he has always come off
as snide and smug in his extremist views.
which proves that he can tailor his answers to
as demanding a context as being grilled by Terry
Gross. i didnt realize what a fine mind he has
till yesterday.
it is a very good thing that the war is going so
well right now.
on to Baghdad!
in a few days Baghdad will be ringed by allied
troups. HOW they will take the city itself is the
big question now. stay tuned!
maybe the American occupation will not sour after
the few months of quiet. is it just possible that
the occupation will NOT elicit unceasing terrorist
acts by the locals? winning the hearts and minds
of the locals is just a gag line, but in some sense it
also harkens back to GIs fraternizing with the
fraulein after WW II.

*professional military prefer that their troups
be blooded once in a while. a peacetime army gets
very soft and lacksadaisical (like when I was in Army
in 1957). it is no accident that the British military
would insist on participating. for many years now,
Brit units have generally won the NATO exercise
contests hands down.
