Wayne,
I dont agree with you somewhere on some underlying issue.
You are surely right about the sordid motives behind
America's colonial wars in South America. however there
are other kinds of wars, not colonial wars where
US engaged for other reasons.
I refer to Viet Nam, Korea, WW II, Civil War where
commercial interests did NOT determine participation.
WW I is a different case where US participation is
probably best explained as determined by US financial
interests heavily invested in English and French bonds
and loans which would have lost much value if Germany won.
I think your take on Bush is off the mark, he chose
his camarilla (Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove), not the other
way around. He has mastered Reaganspeak and amurricans
are putty in his hands. 9-11 has made him a war
time president who get more latitude than peacetime
presidents. so keep your seatbelt tightened!
