(1) The kid and the plane:
Carolyn is right - kids (especially middle class
American Ones) don't tend to think long term ...
sometimes the way they "define" themselves as
"special," unique or worthwhile is to do that kind of
thing. Hence the "satanists" the "vampires" and the
allies of the downtrodden/Osama etc. It's just an
effort to pull down the "mind control" wall, brick by
brick ... less political analysis based upon
understanding than visceral rebellion against the
Machine ...

One of the most interesting things to me was the
dilatory effort by a lot of the media to answer the
question of how a 15 year-old got in a Cessna with the
engine running and no supervision in the first place.
As it turns out, I understand, he was a "gofer" around
the place ... Knowing this might have reduced some of
the conspiracy paranoia earlier has that been made
known.

(2) Pipelines, Papa, James Baker et al:
Wayne is SO right about the portability of the FDR
quote ... it covers everything and everybody from
Hells Angels to cops to Congressmen ... "he might be
an asshole, but he's OUR asshole .."

Interesting possibility here is that Junior (who has
always been fed the scraps pushed off the table by
Papa, Cheney, Baker et al - check the Ivins book on
his last oil company disaster bailout by the Saudis)
didn't have the full picture, and that Lay and the
Carlisle gang simply saw a way to get their hands back
into the till with Dubyah at the helm ... if so, he
may have the last laugh on daddy and the boyz ...
If ignorance isn't bliss in this case, it may be
protection for Dubyah ...

(3) Enron and who knew:
The better question might be who didn't know. It just
seems so painfully obvious that the no-sell-stock
edict to employees was the tip off while the people at
the top were doing millions a day in transactions ...
The facts have been there for all to see in the state
and federal campaign donation records ...

(4) Japanese banks & problems:
Roger, that has been a well kept secret only over here
-  the Japanese banks have been in MAJOR crisis mode
the past several years ... scandals, seppuku, the who
sushi ...

Personally, I think the whole thing is depressingly
cyclical, and it's just another chapter in the endless
Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel that is US and world
politics.
