Total non sequitur Jon. Life is hard. There are now 7 million people out
of work in the USA. These Levi workers are only some of them. So what's
your point? That the USA has sweatshops too? First you hate the sweatshop,
but then you get worked up if they have to close. Levi's has been on the
edge of bankruptcy for years now.
I do not wish to argue with you any more. I am just wasting my breath and
energy.

And please see this-
"Our goal is to stabilize the business, but we aren't doing it as fast as we
hoped," Marineau said.
Levi's needs to develop discount jeans to sell in stores such as Target
(Quote) or Wal-Mart (Quote), or risk even more trouble, said Kurt Barnard,
president of the Barnard Retail Trend Report in Upper Monclair, N.J. "Unless
they do that in short order, their very existence will be put into
question."
Levi's has no immediate plans to introduce discount jeans, Marineau said.
Levi's is facing the same challenges as many clothes makers as the economy
weakens.
Faced with sluggish demand, Levi's began curtailing production at its
eight U.S. manufacturing plants in June.
During the next three months, Levi's expects to close the plants for an
average of two to weeks. One or two plants might not close at all. Union
contracts assure the roughly 4,600 workers employed in the plants receive
most of their normal pay while the plants are idle.
The affected operations are in: San Francisco; Blue Ridge, Ga.; Powell,
Tenn.; Brownsville, Texas; El Paso, Texas; San Benito, Texas; and San
Antonio, where there are two plants.
Through the first nine months of the year, Levi's earned US$88 million, a
41 per cent decline. Sales fell 10 per cent to US$3 billion.
