>From the 1998 book titled "The Father of Spin: Edward L.
Bernays and the Birth of Public Relations," by Larry Tye (Crown Publishers, N.Y.):

"Upon Bernay's death in 1995...the Library of Congress made public fifty-three boxes of his papers concerning United Fruit. Those documents paint in vivid detail his behind-the-scenes maneuvering and show how, in 1954, he helped topple Guatemalas's left-leaning regime. The papers also offer insights into the foreign policies of U.S. corporations and the U.S. diplomatic corps during the turbulent 1950s. And they make clear how the United States viewed its Latin neighbors as ripe for economic exploitation and political manipulation--and how the propaganda war Bernays waged in Guatemala set the pattern for future U.S.-led campaigns in Cuba and, much later, Vietnam."

The rest of the chapter goes on to describe in fascinating detail how Bernays crafted the PR campaign for the CIA. Lessons well learned by the current BushBoy regime ('fer Christ sakes, they titled the "anti-terrorism bill" just passed by Congress "The Patriot Act." Among other things, it will allow the Feds, with a court order, to burgle your house for "intelligence" purposes, and never tell you they were there. Not to mention allowing the CIA to operate domestically, which they weren't supposed to before now. Not to mention surveillance of your e-mail. Such as this message...)
