There have been a number of request for info to the annual Texas Cavers
Reunion (we call it Old Timers) so here it is.

This is a big party where I and a few friends cook food for around 500 of
our other friends. We have been doing it since my youngest was 5 months old
and slept on Marilyn's stomach because we didn't want to put her on the tent
floor lest I step on her while returning from some drunken late night hot
tub party. Genevieve is 21 now.

It's a campout, Starts Friday, we cook Saturday, and lay around and tell
lies Saturday night and tell more lies Sunday AM and try to avoid cleaning
up before we leave. They usually have some bad band off in the distance(far
enough away so you can avoid it if you hate the music) to entertain the
young cavers. Last year was a cool surfer band from San Marcos and the
Lounge Lizards played a few years ago. Mostly forgettable wanna be's that
will play cheap, but I digress :)

It is a gathering that has a lot more in common with what I remember as our
old days in Austin. Beer, nice people, kids, guitars, dogs, folksongs, beer,
food, and beer.

Most of the cooks are the old farts most of you know, but there are hundreds
of other folks you don't, so it makes for a real get together, lots of
healthy bright-eyed kids just learning how to debauch, and were there as
good examples of what it takes.

Pete Strickland sets up a huge wood fired hot tub that holds a bunch of
naked people and a huge plastic covered steam lodge heated with auto engine
parts cooked in the fire (my favorite because it's so real, not the faux
Indian experience)

So thats about it except it costs $20.00 per person. From Paellas to pig's
feet we try to cook stuff that is fun to cook and fun to eat while feeding
hundreds.

Below is a partial list sent to cooks to let us know what was scheduled so
far. It's a week old so things will have changed.

You're all welcome. Stay the night and you might even get to hear Mary Jane
do a number or watch me roll one.

Later esse!
