Au contraire mon ami Harry- I'd say we are a LOT closer to catching Bin
Laden this week than two weeks ago. (Not that we will catch him...but I do
hope they succeed.)

As for loss of civil liberties...it was bound to happen with that Ashcroft
guy in office anyway. I do not care a whit about Bin Laden's rights, and I
support the idea of a military tribunal for him and any Al Qaeda we can
catch. It worked for the Nazis and the Japanese militarists, so why not now?
As John McCain said the other day, "War is miserable business, let's get on
with it."

I too am hopeful that when the present unpleasantness passes that we will
not have lost too much in the way of our civil liberties. I do however
remember being in Britain when the IRA was blowing the shit out of
everything, and personally I felt safer knowing the Bobbies were stopping
everyone going into a store or movie with a satchel or a purse and
inspecting them. I didn't bitch about my civil liberties to not be blown
up....or in this case have some anthrax sent to our mayor or whomever (not
that I like my or your mayor) MI 5 was tapping half of the phones in London
(at will)and today I do not see the Brits feeling like they have lost all
their rights because of this action. I do not like it, but these are
extraordinary times with extraordinary events.

Plus I am in total agreement with the voices raised in anger at the
Republicans using this opportunity to loot and eviscerate with their tax
breaks and recissions of environmental rules. They are acting despicably.

I support the war/police action. I do not support the thieving gougers in
our own Congress.

Tele

...the Bill Moyers speech that
Richard Smith forwarded summed up a lot. Great speech.
