Writing custom clients

Carter,

I am looking into writing a custom anonymizer to use on our datasets, using a IP anonymizing library a few of our collaborators wrote. I expect the client to be fairly simple - read a record, pull out the source and destination IP addresses from the record, anonymize them and then write the modified record to file. What would be the simplest way to go about this?
