Hey George,
You got me working with this for a second, but this is my last email for today.
I think for the graphs, setting the upper and lower values gives a set of graphs that you
can actually compare. rrd_graph, changes the range if you let it do what it wants to do.
So I used this type of call to ragraph() with variations to generate the 4 graphs below:

      ragraph sjit -M time 5s -r argus1.out -w ragraph.argus.1.sjit.png -title "argus1 src jitter" -log -upper 10.0 -lower 0.001 - port iax

I believe that these jitter numbers are pretty good, in that they are consistent with other
types of streaming applications I've measured. Why would the variance climb consistently?
Well, since the pattern is seen on both sides of the network, its clear that the network is not
introducing the variations in interpacket arrival. "argus1 src jitter" is the offered jitter from
argus1 -> argus2, and "argus2 src jitter" is the received jitter. They look almost identical.
Same applies to the traffic in the opposite direction.

Two independent observations, generating almost identical data.

The story would be that the network is transparent to application packet transmission variance.
This is expected, since your end systems are so close to each other, separated by 5 hops and
only 200 uSecs.

Carter
