Official rc.24 releases on the server

Gentle people,
I have just uploaded a new set of rc.24 tarfiles (this is the officially
announced rc.24), which has many nits fixed, and some Makefile
corrections in it.  Should at least compile on your machines.

Please use this version for any further testing.  I will try to get the
rc.25 version up late tonight!!!!  But if not, it may be a week or so.
