Hello,
        Why not just put almost everything in /usr/local? It's where most 
other packages seem to want to install things into.

        /usr/local/sbin/ for the argus binary
        /usr/local/share/man and /usr/local/share/doc for the man pages/docs
	/usr/local/etc (or etc/argus)    for configuration files

That isn't even terribly inconsistant with the FHS. The argus log files can
still go in /var/something by default, but most people are probably going to 
want to change that location anyways.
