Just when I thought I was done ;o)
OK, the fix indeed was very straight forward
and it is in "F" which will be up tomorrow.
For those who just can't wait, here is the diff.

Well "speak of the Devil"! my E server has just died with this error
too -- same line. It had been running for several days but since it is
only monitoring a 10Mbps ethernet one would expect it to go longer.
