Not while /bin/sh scripts work, ;-) 

When I have abnormally large data files and I am trawling for 
explanations I usually reduce them linearly otherwise there can be 
a nasty disk noise as swap-hell breaks loose.

If there were such an option you would probably have to add in wild
card expansion as well - ra -nr argus-data:08:*:00 which will become 
messy with \* and friends.

I am sure others will have the opposite view.
