Steve Jobs believes in art. But there seem to have been some at Apple who are slightly less inclined toward it after discovering that an artist had installed software on around 100 Apple Store computers.

**** Dreams Of A Final Theory By Steven Weinberg – Review <http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2011/jul/08/dreams-final-theory-weinberg-review?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+theguardian%2Fbooks%2Frss+%28Books%29>
Tim Radford, The Guardian

The surprising thing is that the book doesn't feel in the least out of date. Since first publication, physicists have demonstrated quantum entanglement and experiments in teleportation; they have built the once-theoretical fifth state of matter, the Bose-Einstein condensate; they have used such technology to slow a beam of light first to bicycle speed, and then to a standstill; they have stopped talking about cosmic string and introduced branes instead; they have extended the idea of a multiverse; and they have identified an entirely new feature called dark energy, that accounts for three quarters of the whole detectable cosmos. So why is his book still a great read?

**** Off-putting Behaviour <http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/booksblog/2011/jul/05/procrastination-al-kennedy>
AL Kennedy, The Guardian

As soon it's inevitable that a writer must begin their first word, it becomes (almost) equally and conflictingly inevitable that the writer must do something else really quickly before scribbling breaks out. Hence the kettle. Tell you what, I'll just go and make a fresh beverage, then I'll get down to things properly. Absolutely. Of course I will.

Paulin Tay Straughan, Straits Times

While it is important to ensure that physicians are paid a fair wage, we must not resort to only remuneration to address the shortage of public sector health-care professionals. In tandem, we must examine the root cause of this shortage and address its constraints.

Unbiasedelectorate

A quick browse through his blog I notice something of eerie similarity to the PAP. The lack of criticism , this seems all so familiar in the pages linked with PAP. It seems that he clams downs on message/comments disagreeing with him. Also of course there is a recent saga of him using potential lawsuit to shut-up a dissenting voice , which sound all so familiar.

**** KL Insists Airspace Intrusions Took Place <http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_688467.html>
Carolyn Hong, Straits Times

Malaysia yesterday insisted that Singapore had repeatedly violated its airspace over Johor since 2008, but said this did not pose a threat to national security.

In its first response since Singapore denied encroaching into Malaysian airspace 2,508 times since 2008, Malaysia's air force chief Rodzali Daud said the incidents occurred only near the Pedra Branca area for training purposes.

Conservative voters saw a dip especially among those aged 65 and above. Voters who wanted greater pluralism saw increases among those aged 21 to 29 and aged 65 and above.

**** Time To Impose Restrictions On PRs Buying Resale HDB Flats <http://www.temasekreview.com/2011/07/07/time-to-impose-restrictions-on-prs-buying-resale-hdb-flats/>
The Temasek Review

In other countries like Malaysia and Japan, public housing are meant only for locals and foreigners including PRs are not allowed to buy them.

Under the PAP’s ‘asset enhancement policy’, HDB is becoming more and more like a private developer instead of staying true to its vision of building affordable housing for Singaporeans.

It is time to return to the basics and return to earlier times when HDB flats are meant solely for staying and not for investment purposes.

**** Ruling People's Action Party losing some credibility among Singaporeans, survey finds <http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/world/breakingnews/125202874.html>
Alex Kennedy, Associated Press

Fewer Singaporeans consider the ruling People's Action Party to be credible after the party's worst election results since independence, a survey showed Friday.

Prime minister Lee Hsien Loong pledged after the vote to reconsider PAP policies and governing style, and ordered a review of minister salaries, which are among the highest in the world. But the government so far hasn't expressed plans to make fundamental changes, such as establishing a minimum salary or easing the city-state's economic dependence on foreign workers.
